Meet the Artist: Jason Pierson

Join us for a casual evening with Jason Pierson! We will have wine, light refreshments, and late night shopping while Jason shares more about his quilting and natural dying journey! Bring a friend and enjoy this free event!

“I make quilts by hand in the mountains of western North Carolina, on the ancestral lands of the Eastern Cherokee and Yuchi peoples, near Asheville: a hub for artists and creatives.

While I use a modern sewing machine, my work is all based on traditional piecing and patchwork quilting techniques. Each quilt is finished/bound by hand; I treasure this final opportunity to spend time with each piece before it heads out into the world.

A major focus of my making is on materials. I use organic GOTS-certified cotton fabric in a “greige” (less processed) form. Most of the colors in my work are from natural dyes, from plants harvested and foraged from nature by me. The batting I use (i.e., the “inside” of the quilt) is natural unbleached cotton; and my thread is organic GOTS-certified cotton. My quilts are completely plant-based, created in a cruelty-free vegan home.”

Meet the Artist: Donna Mankus

Join us for a casual evening with Donna Mankus! We will have wine, light refreshments, and late night shopping while Donna demonstrates her unique painting style and talks more about her history as an artist! Bring a friend and enjoy this free event!

When I paint there are no distractions. I am in a state of intense concentration on the present which gives me a sense of timelessness. While painting there is nothing for me but the views, canvas, paint, and the brushes in front of me. I offer here my paintings that come from my love and respect for the land. They represent not only unique landscapes but also unique experiences that I want the viewer to be a part of.

My studies began in Pennsylvania when my 8th grade teacher commissioned a drawing from me. This encouragement was pivotal for determining my future. At a young age, after trying my hand at graphic design and animation production, drawing and painting the landscape became my subject of choice. My media has included wood block and linoleum printing, pastel, and oil paint with my current concentrations being watercolor and acrylic to create small, intimate works of the land.

Moving from Pennsylvania to San Francisco in 1980 my fortune took me to studying under Paul Pratchenko, Robert Bechtle, and Jamie Brunson after which I became a teacher. After 20 years of teaching my home became the tiny town of Maggie Valley, NC in the beautiful Smoky Mountains.”

Grief Toolkit

In this workshop, we're working with Mary Grace Bigelow, LCMHC again to discuss grief.  Grief comes in many shapes and sizes including loss of a loved one, breakups, divorce, birth of a child, health issues, moving, and life changes. Grief can be heavy and isolating, so let's come together as we bring light to this topic. She will lead a discussion around what grief is, how it affects us, what it can look like, and ultimately, ways to process grief. During this talk, participants will create a memento out of clay to symbolize meaning making for whatever kind of grief they may experience.

While this is an educational workshop rather than a Support Group, sharing is more welcome in our brave space.

  • $45/person

  • If you wish to attend but need financial assistance, please reach out.
